To further our reasoning and problem solving skills linked to addition and subtraction, we have had a go at some super tricky maths questions this morning.

The children worked very hard with their partners to crack the problem and we even ended up with multiple solutions!

Once we had realised that the zero had to be a part of the answer, and the one had to go in the thousands column, we were able to solve the rest of the problem.

Can your child explain why the zero has to go in the answer? Or why the one has to go in the thousands column?

Have a look at two of our solutions below!

How many different solutions can you find?

Does the zero always have to be in the hundreds column of the answer?

Are there any solutions that include renaming?
