Solid Science!

This half term we have been investigating the properties of materials and how their particles behave. This provided a great link to our Global Economy topic as we looked at where different products from around the world were manufactured, and what materials they were made from.

We looked at reversible and irreversible changes and carried out an experiment to see if we could inflate a balloon without blowing into it.

We had some success by mixing vinegar and bicarbonate of soda together to produce carbon dioxide, and observed that the gas reversed back into liquid (which we decided wouldn't taste very nice on our fish and chips!).

We nearly had to evacuate the classroom when Mr Rugg decided to mix all of the contents together and gave them a good shake, thus inflating the balloon a lot!
