Class 6 trip to Thwaite Mills

Image of Class 6 trip to Thwaite Mills

We had a wonderful (if slightly chilly) time at Thwaite Mills learning about aspects of World War 2. We got the chance to measure out rations for the week and counted up money using old coins (how many shillings in a Bob?). We experienced a real blackout and sheltered in the Anderson shelter, not forgetting our gas mask boxes! We also had a tour of the Mill and sampled its history making and supplying putty to repair windows during the war. After a WW2 themed lunch we made our own gas masks and of course enjoyed spending our modern money in the shop.

Enjoy the pictures - can you tell who's wearing the gas mask?!
